Travel Grantee 2024 Claudia Kathe
In February 2024 Claudia Kathe attended the conference on Sensorimotor Circuits for Limb Control in Okinawa, Japan:
"Receiving the travel fellowship from the Swiss Society of Neuroscience enabled me to
attend and present at the conference on “Sensorimotor Circuits for Limb Control” at the
Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) in Japan. This experience was timely and
advantageous as I am in the process of establishing my own laboratory, allowing me to
announce the launch of my independent group to the field and marking a milestone in my
career as a PI.
Invited as a speaker, I had the opportunity to present my post-doctoral work
on the mechanisms of electrical stimulation of the spinal cord, as well as outline my future
research focus, which will be on combining gene therapy with novel forms of stimulation,
such as implantable photo-stimulation devices. Several leaders in the field of spinal cord
circuits attended the conference, giving me invaluable networking opportunities and
visibility which is essential as a young principal investigator. This photo was taken just after
giving my presentation, I am discussing my work with distinguished scientists including Prof.
Ole Kiehn - a recent recipient of the Brain Prize.
Thank you again for this opportunity!"
